Animal Trance: A Ritual Dance Experience in Edinburgh

A new immersive dance experience by PsycheNautics. This is a guided 60-minute journey where we explore movement beyond thinking — stepping out of our usual identities and into something more instinctive, playful, and free.
Together, we’ll work with the energy of 7 Scottish animals, each representing a different wild spirit. You’ll be randomly given an animal mask and invited to embody that energy through movement.
No choreography. No performance. Just a structured, safe space to let the body lead and explore your instinctive side.

It’s part ritual, part game, and part dance floor — designed to be accessible and welcoming, even if you’ve never done anything like this before.
🦊 No dance experience needed
🐰 You can go at your own pace
🐱 Fully guided throughout
Practical Info
Wear loose, comfortable clothing (it can get warm)
Bring water
If you wear glasses, you can still participate — masks are spacious (contact lenses recommended though)

What people have said:
“Practices like this provide a fantastic root system for expression… an accepting yet structured approach that is ideal for ritual conduction.”
If you feel even a little curious… that’s usually the sign 🌟
PS: This isn’t a furry event, and no alcohol is involved — just movement, music, and exploration

This event is not happening at the museum building but at the LifeCare Centre in Edinburgh.

Ancient Greek Necromancy (Workshop)

8th August 19:30

Tickets: £25

Communication with the dead was an integral part of Ancient Greek culture, but one that remains little known and often misunderstood. Nevertheless, the Ancient Greeks have left us with a wealth of powerful necromantic techniques that can still be used by practitioners today.

In this practical workshop, scholar- practitioner Jules McArthur will give an illustrated lecture on the beliefs and practices of necromancy in the Ancient Greek world, from the Archaic Period to the Greek Magical Papyri. In the second half of the workshop, participants will have the opportunity to put what they have learnt into practice and take part in a necromantic ritual based on Ancient Greek techniques.

Topics covered will include:

– Ancient beliefs about the dead and how they developed over a thousand years of Greek history
– Necromancy in Homer’s Iliad and Odyssey
– Tomb Cults and Hero Cults
– Oracles of the Dead
– Necromancy and Dreams
– Methods of conjuring the dead
– The protocols and procedures for safely interacting with the dead
– How to adapt ancient magical practices for modern use

Queerness and the Modern Witchcraft Revival (Lecture)

7th August 19:30

Tickets: £12.50

Many queer people today, disenchanted by mainstream religions, come to witchcraft seeking a spiritual practice that embraces and celebrates their identities. However, the relationship between modern witchcraft and queerness is a complex one, at various times affirming and at others antagonistic.

In this illustrated lecture, Jules McArthur will investigate the roles that both queer people and ideas about queerness had in the development of modern witchcraft. They will discuss notable figures such as Aleister Crowley and Doreen Valiente, as well as lesser-known ones, including Jani Farrell-Roberts, one of the first trans High Priestesses in Gardnerian Wicca. Finally, they will close by exploring what it means to be a queer witch today.
